At Design Me we are now offering energy assessments for new and existing buildings expanding our services further into the sustainability sector. We can provide a range of SBEM calculations producing BRUKL documents and EPC’s.

SBEM (Simplified building energy model) is a computer program. It provides an analysis of a building’s energy consumption. It calculates monthly energy use and carbon dioxide emissions of a building, using a description of the building geometry, construction, use and HVAC and lighting equipment.

The building industry is always looking to find ways to create greener, more sustainable developments. As a result, energy efficiency is a high priority in the UK. Energy assessments are carried out to ensure that new buildings are, well insulated, well ventilated, efficiently heated, cooled, lit and sustainable.

Things we have learned that you should know are that SBEM calculations are required for commercial buildings in the UK. In order to produce a new or up-to-date Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), you need to carry out SBEM calculations. It is against the law to rent or sell a commercial property without an EPC. An EPC rates the property between 1 and 100. The closer to 1 the rating is, the more energy efficient the building is.
